Our School

Treehouse Montessori School started with the vision of Louanne Johnson. Her passion led her to the opening of Treehouse Montessori in 2003. We are a community-minded family, who offers care for children beginning in our toddler program through kindergarten. Our children have the opportunity to develop a love of nature as well as the opportunity to preserve and protect it. We at TMS believe through the guidance of the child, we can foster the development of the whole child, socially and academically, using the principles of Maria Montessori in an intimate community setting.

Montessori for Today!

Our Mission

Treehouse Montessori School sustains a community-centric educational environment that creates a voice for all children and families. We follow the individual needs of the child while empowering the child and community to express and advocate for those needs. Together as a community, we will model, support, and embrace diversity and equity while holding true to Dr. Maria Montessori’s principles.

Our Philosphy

Montessori philosophy is based on the extensive work, research, and insight of the late Dr. Maria Montessori. Dr. Montessori understood the great potential inherent in each and every child. By observing children, Dr. Montessori was inspired to carefully design materials, train teachers, and create a format for a “prepared” environment.

The materials in the Montessori classroom stimulate the curiosity of the children and invite them to learn through discovery. Most of the work in a Montessori classroom is individual; therefore, a non-competitive environment is achieved. In this environment, children of different ages and varying abilities learn side by side and with great satisfaction.

The teacher creates an environment that has freedom within limits and allows for the children to be successful. All activity is guided with a respect for self, respect for others, and a respect for the materials. Maria Montessori felt that young children learned by doing and that they acquired self-confidence and self-discipline by learning to concentrate on meaningful work.

Our Montessori classrooms are designed for children ages 18 months to 36 months or 2 1/2 to 6 years of age. The multi-age classrooms provide for the younger children to learn from the older children, while the older children act as mentors. Our students learn to respect and value differences and look with an open mind at all members of the community, seeking to understand and value everyone for who they are.
